Tentu saja, merubah sesuatu hal yang telah menjadi semacam adat di dalam sebuah kelompok bukanlah hal yang mudah untuk dilakukan. Ahmad Dahlan sendiri sempat mendapatkan kecaman dari seorang kyai penjaga tradisi, Kyai Penghulu Kamaludiningrat (Slamet Rahardjo), bahkan sering dituding sebagai seorang kyai yang sesat.
